Industry: Travel
This cruise line has a hospital onboard every ship and Quintal developed a system to support the operations of each hospital. When a patient arrives at the medical facility, the medical team creates a patient record. The doctors and nurses enter the patient’s symptoms, treatment, follow-up and medications into this record. At the completion of the cruise, all medical bills are posted to the passenger’s ship record. The system also includes a comprehensive purchasing/inventory control application. Many unique problems needed to be resolved because Quintal was dealing with a cruise ship. For example, medications can only be delivered when the ship is in port. Another consideration is that drugs, medical supplies and equipment are ordered in several different countries each with their own currency, nomenclature, packaging and shipping procedures. Many drugs have expiration dates which need to be taken into account when they are dispensed. Planning ahead to avoid out-of-stock inventory and emergency shipments is crucial. Purchase orders are generated on board and transmitted to corporate headquarters for processing and delivery. When the products arrive, they are compared against the purchase orders to maintain a log of missing orders. The system allows detailed analysis of the performance of each hospital. |

Industry: Education
Parents and educators have longed for a way to keep young children interested in learning after the school day is over. To meet this demand, Quintal built the IT systems for an online, childhood education provider. The developed subscription service became the first web-based learning play ground for early learners and their teachers and parents. The flexibility of the solution offered a great range of subscription possibilities. A single family would subscribe to the service for their child. The school that the child attended had the opportunity to purchase a server with all of the required software and link the childs school account to the family home account. Distributed servers in the schools offered scalability, flexibility, and a low cost of ownership to the client. Since the curriculum for each school is stored locally on the server, user access speeds were significantly increased. Update methods were then designed to enable schools to receive the latest content from the client transparently after hours. These same update mechanisms were used to synchronize child data between the school and the main servers so families would be able to view school assignments and progress from their home accounts. |
